The Water Revolution Foundation calls for a commitment towards sustainable yachting, laying down a four-step plan for superyachts to have a more environmentally friendly impact.
In the quest for a more sustainable sailing experience, the Water Revolution Foundation is spearheading a 'Yachting Resolution'. The resolution comprises an actionable four-step plan that could help yachts make a significant environmental impact. The first step involves using the Yacht Environmental Transparency Index (YETI), a tool to benchmark yachts against a set target, building it easy for owners to understand their yacht’s efficiency and foster improvements. The Foundation also urges a culture of environmental awareness among operation teams by adhering to Environmental Crew Guidelines. Additionally, it encourages dedicating 0.3-0.5% of the annual yacht operational budget to restoring ocean health. Nonetheless, the Foundation understands the value of exploring and implementing alternative fuels like Hydro-treated Vegetable Oil (HVO) for a cleaner future. These cohesive efforts are aimed to guide the industry towards sustainable yachting. The Foundation anticipates that the industry will respond positively to this call to action and drive forward a greener yachting experience.
