Vienna Eleuteri, initiator of Water Revolution Foundation, leads a groundbreaking discussion amongst superyacht industry representatives on achieving net-zero impacts by 2050 through investing in the natural environment.

Eleuteri kicked off the session by laying out a three-pronged strategy for achieving net zero, known as the '3R' model: Reduce, Remove, Restore. This involves minimizing negative impacts across the lifecycle like increasing efficiency of on-board systems; adopting bio-alternatives for building materials; and actively restoring ecosystems. The audience was shown a graph outlining this comprehensive roadmap, emphasizing the need for all stages of the industry to be involved to achieve net zero by 2050. Eleuteri pointed to the International University of Monaco study which revealed the passion for the ocean as the top reason for yacht ownership. Hence, maintaining the health and splendor of the sea is a priority. Eleuteri's presentation also highlighted a budding environmental protection mechanism in Red Sea's tourism, which is leveraging its rich biodiversity and marine ecosystems to build an industry from scratch. According to her, this demonstrates the economic potential in marine conservation, effectively shows investment in the ocean is both a wealth and health initiative.
