Jono and Freddie Pank have demonstrated their peerless light-airs skills to triumph at the GJW Direct 49th Bloody Mary, one of the UK's major dinghy racing events. The duo's exceptional performance on their Firefly boat at the Queen Mary Sailing Club's annual event kept them ahead despite the challenge from other sailing stalwarts.

With over 99 boats entered for the Queen Mary Sailing Club's principal event, the GJW Direct 49th Bloody Mary, it was the Panks who notedly shone. They harnessed their light-air mastery, adding a victorious feather to their sailing hat. The challenging conditions didn't deter Jono Pank from attempting his chance after a 30-year hiatus, especially as he considered the forecast favorable for their Firefly. However, the competition stiffened when the breeze allowed advantaged Scorpion Tom Gillard and Rachael Gray, and A Rater team of Jamie Stewart, Ben Palmer, and Dicken Maclean to weave through the fleet. Despite their progress, the Panks managed to retain their lead. A tight finish had Gillard and Gray trailing as the second with Stewart's A Rater team settling at third. In an unexpected turn of events on this iconic boat race, Olympic campaigner Ben Flower secured the fourth place, leaving past winners of the Bloody Mary behind. The company lauded the triumph of the staff and volunteers, and spectators relished the slow-motion sea action.
